Parking & Access Services moved to new location

On Thursday, July 5, 2007, the Georgia Building Authority Parking and Access Services office at MLK Building #7 relocated to the front entrance of 1 MKL Jr. Drive (facing the Capitol).

The move is a part of a master plan to redesign the GBA building at 1 MLK. Part of the plan entailed moving Parking and Access to ensure that services provided to GBA customers would be faster, friendlier and easier. “Almost all of our customers would enter the front door of 1 MLK expecting to see the Parking Services office only to be re-routed to Building #7,” stated Diane Hale, Director of Parking and Access Services. “At some point we realized that it was easier to bring Parking Services to our customers rather than the other way around.”

The move required some significant changes to the new space. The GBA renovation team along with Maintenance Team North broke down an office and a copy room to create the waiting area and the self-service area. Another office was split in half in order to create two offices. The project actually began on April 16, 2007 and was completed on June 22^nd.

The benefit of the new location is not just for GBA customers. Hale believes that the new location will provide a more effective workplace for staff as well. “When the workplace is more effective, it allows us to develop a work environment that fosters friendly, helpful interaction with customers”, states Hale. Furthermore, Hale hopes that the new space will allow her team to create an office that compliments future development of online services which will be located in the self service area. GBA plans to have a fully operational self-serve area where customers can complete their own identification forms, take their own picture and thereby only have to wait for the identification badges to be made rather than the entire process itself.

GBA is very excited about the move and hopes that customers appreciate the convenience of the new change in location. The Parking and Access Services Office hours of operation are from 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday thru Friday.
