Alternative Site Designated for Washington Street Events

The Georgia Building Authority began renovating the State Capitol west steps on April 14, 2014. This area, which is designated for outside special events and protests, will be temporarily moved to the lower level of Plaza Park which is located across the street from the State Capitol. This site will be used until approximately January 1, 2015.

  1. The park will be available for events from 7:00am until 6:00pm Monday-Sunday.  
  2. Group size can range up to 350 guests.
  3. Buses and vans are permitted to park on Washington Street in the far right lane.
  4. Loading or unloading equipment for the Plaza Park area is located on Central Avenue.
  5. ADA access to this area is located on Central Avenue.
  6. Events are allowed in this area by reservation and are subject to the following conditions:

    • An organization or persons temporarily using the area will need to provide electrical generators, microphone and podium, tables and chairs at their own expense.
    • No temporary structure may be anchored to the grass or stone areas. Sand bags are acceptable.
    • Equipment or structures temporarily erected by an organization or person, as part of an event, shall be removed daily by the scheduled time for closing of the grounds. Structures are required to comply with the requirements as set forth by the Fire Safety Division of the Insurance Commissioner’s Office.
    • No one shall climb upon the statues, memorials, or other features. No one shall encroach upon the grass and gardens of the grounds.
    • The Department of Public Safety may cancel an event at any time if a determination is made that life, safety, or damage to the park are at risk.
