Traffic Conditions on Capitol Hill for the 2019 Legislative Session- Mitchell Street closed from Washington Street to Capitol Avenue

January 11, 2019

We welcome the new and returning legislators, aides, lobbyists, and citizens to Capitol Hill for the 2019 Legislative Session. We hope that your experience here exemplifies our mission to provide a clean, comfortable, and safe environment.

As of January 10, 2019, the Authority is proud to announce the opening of the Capitol Square Extension. This much-needed improvement to Capitol Hill alleviates traffic coming in from Interstate 75/85 by extending the Square (Mitchell Street) east of Washington Street all the way to the intersection of Jesse Hill Jr. Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.  This road extension may alter commutes to the Hill daily. See the map below for clarification on how to access Hill parking using the new extension.

Also,  Mitchell Street will be closed from Washington Street to Capitol Avenue during the 2019 Legislative Session. This will aid pedestrian traffic flows between the State Capitol, South Deck, and the Coverdell Legislative Office Building.
