Senior Purchasing Manager

Bernard Canty serves as the Senior Purchasing Manager for the Georgia Building Authority. He has over 26 years of public procurement experience with the State of Georgia.  He has served in a variety of managerial roles, including warehouse supervisor, purchasing supervisor, interim purchasing manager, operations manager, contracts manager, agency procurement officer (APO), purchasing manager and interim director of purchasing. 

Bernard began his career with the State of Georgia in 1993 at DOAS in the Telcom Division. He has since served the citizens of Georgia while employed at multiple state agencies. He was part of the GSFIC team for 4 years before transferring to GBA.  

Bernard is a member of the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP) and the Georgia Chapter of NIGP; along with the Governmental Procurement Association of Georgia (GPAG).  He holds the national certification of Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) from the Universal Public Procurement Certification Council (UPPCC) and the State of Georgia certification of Georgia Certified Purchasing Manager (GCPM) through the Georgia Department of Administrative Services State Purchasing Division. 

Bernard was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. He is a graduate of Atlanta Public Schools.  He studied Business Administration at Morris Brown College and Clayton College & State University. Outside of work, he enjoys auto mechanics and the outdoors. He serves as a local and national deacon with his church, sings with his church choir and serves on the usher ministry.
